Iranian authorities have hanged another 30 prisoners at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on drug-related charges, says the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.
The campaign cites “local knowledgeable sources” saying 12 prisoners were executed on Wednesday June 29 and another 18 were hanged on the following Sunday.
The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran say the executions once again were carried out in secret and en masse, with no prior notification of families and attorneys and no official announcement from the judiciary.
The report indicates that on June 29, the judiciary announced the execution of one convicted murderer but made no reference to the execution of 12 prisoners on drug charges.
On June 15 another 25 prisoners were reportedly executed en masse at Vakilabad Prison without any official announcement
The campaign maintains that hundreds of prisoners have been executed in secret at Vakilabad Prison over the past two years, but Mashhad’s prosecutor general has responded by saying the media has exaggerated the scale of executions at Vakilabad. Mahmoud Zoghi has said that Mashhad has a high rate of drug crime because of its proximity to the Afghanistan border. This, according to the prosecutor, is what drives up the execution rate in the Khorasan Razavi Province compared to other regions of Iran.
Reports of mass executions in Vakilabad Prison have caused grave concern for human rights groups, and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon made direct reference to them in March in his report on human rights violations in Iran.

کمپین بینالمللی حقوق بشر در ایران به نقل از «منابع موثق محلی» اعلام کرد که ۱۲ نفر در روز چهارشنبه هشتم تیر و ۱۸ نفر نیز در روز یکشنبه ۱۲ تیرماه جاری اعدام شدهاند
کمپین بینالمللی حقوق بشر گفته است این اعدامها نیز همچون اعدامهای ماههای گذشته در این زندان به صورت دستهجمعی و مخفیانه صورت گرفته و توسط منابع رسمی قوه قضائیه اعلام نشدهاند
کمپین میافزاید این اعدامها نیز «بدون طی روال قانونی اجرای احکام اعدام و بدون اطلاع و حضور خانواده ها و وکلای اعدام شدگان» بوده است
بر پایه این گزارش در روز هشتم تیرماه که ۱۲ نفر اعدام شدهاند، یک نفر متهم به قتل نیز اعدام شده است که خبر آن توسط رسانههای محلی و مقامات قضایی منتشر شد اما اعدام ۱۲ نفر پنهان ماند

در روز ۲۵ خردادماه سال جاری نیز خبر اعدام ۲۶ زندانی بهشکل گروهی و پنهانی در زندان وکیلآباد مشهد منتشر شده بود
کمپین بینالمللی حقوق بشر در ایران تا کنون در گزارشهای متعدد از «اعدام صدها زندانی» در سالهای ۸۸ ، ۸۹ و ۹۰ در زندان وکیلآباد مشهد خبر داده است
محمود ذوقی، دادستان عمومی و انقلاب مشهد چندی پیش گفته بود: «رسانههای بیگانه در مورد اعدام قاچاقچیان مواد مخدر در زندان وکیلآباد مشهد بزرگنمایی میکنند
این نخستین واکنش یک مقام قضائی ایران در مورد اعدامهای صورت گرفته در مشهد است
محمود ذوقی افزوده بود: طبق قانون مبارزه با مواد مخدر، حمل و نقل، نگهداری و خرید و فروش بیش از ۳۰ گرم هروئین مجازات اعدام دارد و این در حالی است که میزان ورود این ماده مخدر به استان خراسان رضوی بالاست و طبیعتأ اجرای حکم اعدام نیز بالا خواهد بود
افزایش بیسابقه موج اعدامها در ایران در سال ۱۳۸۹ واکنشهای بینالمللی را نیز به دنبال داشته است
بان کیمون، دبیر کل سازمان ملل متحد اسفند ۱۳۸۹ طی گزارشی از «نگرانیهای بینالمللی» نسبت به شرایط زندانیان در زندان وکیلآباد مشهد خبر داد
سازمان عفو بینالملل نیز در گزارش سالانه خود اعلام کرد ایران پس از چین، بیشترین اعدامهای سال ۲۰۱۰ میلادی را به خود اختصاص داده است
عفو بینالملل در ژانویه ۲۰۱۱ خبر داد که در سال جدید میلادی هر هفته به طور میانگین ۲۰ نفر در ایران اعدام شدهاند
هم اکنون دو سوم کشورهای عضو سازمان ملل، یعنی ۱۳۰ کشور، حکم اعدام را کنار گذاشتهاند، اما در ۶۲ کشور همچنان مجازات اعدام اجرا میشود که جمهوری اسلامی ایران یکی از این کشورها است
