Four American senators have called on U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to impose sanctions against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a human rights abuser.
“We urge you to designate President Ahmadinejad as an Iranian human rights abuser,” Republican Senators Mark Kirk and Jon Kyl, Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Independent Senator Joe Lieberman wrote in a letter to Clinton.
They point out that on March 2 at a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing, Clinton said there was “certainly evidence” of human rights abuses by Iran’s leadership including Ahmadinejad.
The U.S. senators also refer to the EU’s recent move designating 32 Iranian official as human rights abusers, noting that the U.S. has made the same designation against only seven officials on that list.
They urge Clinton to investigate the remaining 25 officials on the EU list for possible inclusion as human rights abusers.
The EU list includs the head of Iran’s National Police, commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, and senior judiciary officials, as well as judges that managed the cases of protesters detained following the 2009 presidential elections.

مارک کرک، جان کایل، کریستین گیلیبراند و جو لیبرمن روز جمعه ۱۵ اوریل ۲۰۱۱( ۲۶ فروردین ۱۳۹۰) همچنین در نامه خود از وزیر خارجه آمریکا خواستهاند تا درباره عملکرد ۲۵ مقام دیگر ایرانی و گنجاندن نام آنها در فهرست تحریمها تحقیقات را آغاز کند
این چهار سناتور آمریکایی با اشاره به اقدام اخیر اتحادیه اروپا در تحریم ٣٢ مقام ایرانی به اتهام «نقض حقوق بشر» اعلام کردهاند که از این فهرست تنها هفت نفر از سوی آمریکا تحریم شدهاند
اتحادیه اروپا هفته گذشته ٣٢ مقام ایرانی را به اتهام «نقض حقوق بشر» تحریم کرد و داراییهای آنها را در اروپا مسدود نمود و اعلام کرد که به این عده اجازه سفر به اروپا را نخواهد داد
مقامهای نظامی تحریم شده از سوی اتحادیه اروپا عبارتند از: اسماعیل احمدی مقدم، فرمانده نیروی انتظامی؛ حسین اللهکرم، رهبر انصار حزبالله و از افسران سپاه پاسداران؛ عبدالله عراقی، معاون نیروی زمینی سپاه؛ علی فضلی، معاون بسیج و فرمانده سابق قرارگاه سیدالشهدا سپاه در استان تهران؛ حسین همدانی، از فرماندهان سپاه؛ محمدعلی جعفری، فرمانده سپاه؛ علی خلیلی، رئیس بخش پزشکی پایگاه ثارالله؛ بهرام حسینی مطلق، فرمانده قرارگاه سیدالشهدا؛ محمدرضا نقدی، فرمانده بسیج؛ محمدرضا رادان، معاون نیروی انتظامی؛ عزیزالله رجبزاده، فرمانده سابق نیروی انتظامی تهران؛ حسین ساجدینیا، فرمانده نیروی انتظامی تهران و حسین طائب، فرمانده سابق بسیج و معاون سپاه
