Iranian opposition says if the Islamic Republic refuses to issue them a permit for a pro-Arab rally, it will only be proving its fear of popular movements.
Ardeshir Amirarjmand, an aide to MirHosein Mousavi, told Jaras website that the request for demonstrations “is a test for those who keep saying the Green Movement is dead.”
Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, Iran’s two main opposition leaders, have requested a government permit to stage demonstrations on February 14 in support of the recent Arab uprisings.
The request has put the Islamic Republic authorities in a bind. While they have declared their support for the people’s movements in Egypt and Tunisia, they have repeatedly denied the Iranian opposition the right to stage demonstrations in the past year.
On June 15, 2009, many Iranians took to the street to challenge the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Several accounts put the number of demonstrators at more than a million people. Iran’s security forces reacted violently, with the bloodiest attacks coming on Ashura Day in December of 2009. At that point, the opposition stopped rallying people in order to prevent more bloodshed.
Despite a continued crackdown on protesters over the past year, through arrests and harsh sentencing, the Islamic Republic establishment has repeatedly maintained that the Green Movement (as the protest movement has come to be known) is dead.
Article 27 of the Islamic Republic constitution gives people the right to hold gatherings and stage peaceful demonstrations so long as they are not “in violation Islamic principles.”
Amirarjmand told Jaras that if the Islamic Republic refuses to grant its own opposition the right to demonstrate, then it is in no position to express support for popular protests in other countries.
“Tyrants of our country need to realize that the right to determine one’s fate is a universal right and there is no difference between Iran, Egypt and Tunisia,” Mousavi’s advisor added.
The Iranian government has so far made no response to Mousavi and Karroubi’s request for a rally permit; however, today the state-backed daily Keyhan described the opposition’s request as a “move to alleviate the misfortunes of Israel and the U.S.”

یکی از مشاوران میرحسین موسوی، مخالفت احتمالی حکومت ایران با برگزاری راهپیمایی را نشانه «ترس حکومت از حرکتهای مردمی» توصیف کرد
اردشیر امیرارجمند، مشاور میرحسین موسوی به وبسایت جنبش راه سبز (جرس)، گفت درخواست راهپیمایی آزمونی بر ادعای آنهایی است که مدتی است میگویند جنبش سبز مرده و وجود ندارد
میرحسین موسوی و مهدی کروبی، دو تن از رهبران مخالف دولت طی نامهای که تاریخ آن ۱۶ بهمن جاری است از وزارت کشور ایران خواستهاند تا برای همبستگی با مردم تونس و مصر به آنها اجازه راهپیمایی داده شود
در ماههای اخیر کشورهای عربی از جمله مصر و تونس دستخوش تحولات تازهای شدهاند و در مخالفت با حکومتهای این کشورها چندین تظاهرات اعتراضی برگزار شده است
این دو رهبر مخالف دولت در نامه خود به وزارت کشور نوشتهاند: به منظور اعلام همبستگی با حرکتهای مردمی در منطقه بهویژه قیام آزادیخواهانه مردم تونس و مصر علیه حکومت استبدادی در کشور، درخواست صدور مجوز برای دعوت به راهپیمایی مردمی طبق اصل ۲۷ قانون اساسی در جهت حمایت از قیام مردم این دو کشور مسلمان را در روز دوشنبه ۲۵ بهمن ساعت سه بعدازظهر از میدان امام حسین تا میدان آزادی را داریم
بنا بر اصل ۲۷ قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی ایران، برگزاری تجمعات و راهپیمایی «بدون حمل سلاح» و بهشرط آنکه «مخل مبانی اسلام» نباشد، آزاد است
هواداران جنبش سبز (جنبش مخالفان حکومت ایران)، درخواست راهپیمایی برای روز دوشنبه ۲۵ بهمن ٨٩ را یادآور تظاهرات میلیونی «دوشنبه ۲۵ خرداد ١٣٨٨» معرفی کردهاند و آن را دارای «نشانه و پیام» دانستهاند
۲۵ خرداد ٨٨، با وجود مخالفت دولت با برگزاری تظاهرات، معترضان به نتیجه انتخابات ریاستجمهوری در تهران راهپیمایی سکوت برگزار کردند. شمار شرکتکنندگان در این راهپیمایی بین یک تا سه میلیون نفر برآورد شده است
اردشیر امیرارجمند در ادامه گفتوگو با جرس افزوده اگر حکومت ایران با درخواست راهپیمایی مخالفت کند، به هیچ وجه صلاحیت ندارد درباره مردم دیگر کشورها اظهار نظر کند
جمهوری اسلامی ایران «سرکوب مردم» توسط حکومتهای منطقه را محکوم کرده و با حمایت از اعتراضات مردم مصر، از دولت این کشور خواسته تا خواستههای معترضان را بپذیرد
مشاور موسوی در ادامه گفته است خودکامگان وطنی باید بپذیرند که حق تعیین سرنوشت یک حق جهانی است و هیچ تفاوتی بین ایران و مصر و تونس نیست
به گفته وی هر جماعتی وقتی که میخواهد از حقوق ملت دیگری دفاع کند، اول باید در صدد تحقق و تضمین حقوق مردم خودش باشد و در جامعه جهانی و در عصر کنونی حق تعیین سرنوشت یک حق اصلی و اساسی است و تنها راه دسترسی به این حق نیز صندوقهای رأی است و باید دولت ما نیز به این مهم گردن گذارد
روزنامه کیهان که مدیر آن توسط آیتالله علی خامنهای، رهبر جمهوری اسلامی منصوب میشود، امروز در واکنش به نامه موسوی و کروبی نوشت: به نظر میرسد تقلای اخیر موسوی و کروبی که تحت فشار آمیخته با اهانت و تحقیر رسانههای زنجیرهای ضدانقلاب انجام گرفته، تحرکی برای کاستن از بدبختیهای اسرائیل و آمریکاست
وزارت کشور ایران تاکنون به نامه موسوی و کروبی واکنشی نشان نداده است. در ۲۰ ماه گذشته که از انتخابات بحثبرانگیز ریاستجمهوری ایران میگذرد، دولت هیچگاه با درخواست مخالفان برای برگزاری راهپیمایی موافقت نکرده است
