Iranian judiciary slapped human rights activist, Navid Khanjani with 12 years in prison and a monetary fine for his journalistic activities, interviews with the foreign media and membership in Human Rights Reporters committee. Khanjani who is banned from pursuing higher education was also charged for “founding an organization for people banned from pursuing higher education.”
He was also banned from travelling abroad in an earlier sentence.
Navid Khanjani was arrested last March in Esfahan and after over two months in Evin Prison was released on a $100,000 bail.
Khanjani has been attacked in the media since his arrest as “a member of the cyber army” and “one of the perpetrators of the soft war” against the Islamic Republic.
Reportedly he was under severe pressure during his interrogations to submit to recorded interviews by the intelligence ministry confessing to self-incriminating charges.
A s a member of the Baha’i religious minority in Iran, he was banned from pursing higher education against which he was involved in many activities for defence of the right to education.
Khanjani’s 12-year sentence is the heaviest prison term handed to a human rights activist by the Islamic Republic so far.

به گزارش کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر این حکم روز گذشته از سوی شعبه ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی به ریاست قاضی پیرعباس در چهار صفحه به شیما قوشه، وکیل نوید خانجانی ابلاغ شده است
دادگاه این فعال حقوق بشر در روز ۲۹ آذرماه سال جاری برگزار شده بود
در حکم صادر شده اتهامات نوید خانجانی «نشر اکاذیب»، «تشویش اذهان و تبلیغ علیه نظام به واسطه انتشار اخبار و گزارشها و انجام مصاحبه با تلویزیون و رادیوهای بیگانه»، «عضویت در شورای مرکزی کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر» و همچنین «تشکیل گروه محرومین از تحصیل» عنوان شده است
نوید خانجانی پیش از این طی حکمی ممنوعالخروج نیز شده بود
نوید خانجانی سهشنبه ۱۱ اسفندماه ۱۳۸۸ در اصفهان دستگیر شد و پس از گذراندن ۶۵ روز بازداشت موقت در زندان اوین که ۲۵ روز نخست آن را در سلول انفرادی به سر کرد، ۱۳ اریبهشت سال جاری با قرار وثیقهی ۱۰۰ میلیون تومانی آزاد شد
خانجانی، طی دوران بازداشت مورد حملات متعدد رسانههای نزدیک به دولت ایران قرار گرفت. این رسانهها از وی بهعنوان «یکی از اعضای ارتش سایبری» و «یکی از اعضای برانداز نرم» یاد میکردند. افزون بر این گفته میشد که وی تحت بازجوییها و فشارهای سنگین، برای انجام مصاحبه ویدئویی قرار داشت
محرومیت از تحصیل وی نیز به دلیل اعتقاد وی به آیین بهایی است و در سالهای اخیر فعالیتهای متعددی را در زمینه حق تحصیل انجام داده است
وی و همکارانش در جمعیت مبارزه با تبعیض تحصیلی به علت پیگیری قانونی پروندههای محرومیت از تحصیل دانشجویان بهائی، بارها مورد تهدید قرار گرفتهاند
محکومیت نوید خانجانی به ۱۲ سال زندان، سنگینترین محکومیت برای یک فعال حقوق بشری در ایران بهشمار میرود
