Iranian authorities announced that the sentence to hang Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, Iranian woman sentenced to stoning in an earlier case, has been suspended with consent of the family of the victim.
In a letter to the Brazilian president, head of human rights committee of the Iranian parliament wrote that Sakineh Mohammadi has been sentenced to ten years in prison and her stoning sentence has not been finalized.
In the past months, the international community joined a campaign to stop the stoning sentence of Sakineh Mohammadi who was accused of adultery and complicity in the murder of her husband by Iranian judiciary.
While the stoning sentence had been suspended, Mohammadi Ashtiani still faced hanging for involvement in the murder of her husband but that sentence is now also suspended.
Zohreh Elahian, head of Iranian parliament’s human rights committee writes that the international protests against Mohmmadi Ashtiani are “lies, psychological warfare, much commotion in the guise of human rights activity and mere propaganda against Iran.”
She writes that Mohmmadi Ashtiani was prosecuted based on verifiable documents and evidence, and during the trial, she directly confessed to “having illicit relationships and participating in the murder of her husband.”
The Iranian lawmaker goes on to speak out against the “double-sided policies” of the international media regarding human rights issues in view of the information blackout on the execution of Teresa Lewis in the United States who was convicted of murdering her husband while highlighting th case of Mohammadi Ashtiani in Iran.
Lewis was executed last September amidst a wave of protests and her lawyer’s insistence that her mental instability made her an easy prey for her other accomplices.
Elahian’s letter is addressed to Dilma Roussef, the Brazilian president apparentlyt because in November the Brazilian president had referred to Mohammad Ashtiani’s stoning sentence as “ a barbarous act.”

زهره الهیان، رئیس کمیته حقوق بشر مجلس شورای اسلامی ایران از «تعلیق» حکم اعدام سکینه محمدی آشتیانی به دلیل «گذشت اولیای دم» خبر داد
به گزارش خبرگزاری کار ایران (ایلنا)، الهیان در نامهای به دیلما روسف، رئیس جمهور برزیل نوشت سکینه محمدی به ۱۰ سال حبس از بابت جنبه عمومی جرم محکوم شده و حکم سنگسار وی نیز نهایی نشده است
سکینه محمدی آشتیانی، از سوی مقامات قضایی ایران به «خیانت به همسرش و قتل» وی متهم شده است. در چند ماه گذشته واکنشهای بینالمللی بسیاری علیه احتمال صدور و اجرای حکم سنگسار علیه خانم آشتیانی به راه افتاد
زهره الهیان در ادامه نامه از اعتراضات جهانی به حکم سکینه محمدی آشتیانی به عنوان «جار و جنجال با ظاهر حقوق بشری، دروغ پراکنی و جنگ روانی و تبلغی علیه حکومت ایران» نام برده است
این نماینده مجلس، افزوده روند محاکمه قضایی محمدی آشتیانی بر اساس «شواهد و مستندات» بوده و وی در جریان محاکمه نیز به «روابط نامشروع و مشارکت در قتل همسرش» به «صراحت» اعتراف کرده است
الهیان همچنین «سکوت» بنگاههای خبر پراکنی را در برابر اعدام ترزا لوییس، زن آمریکایی که مدتی پیش اعدام شد و «ایجاد فضای کذب تبلیغاتی علیه ایران» در مورد پرونده خانم آشتیانی را نشانه «سیاستهای دوگانه» درباره حقوق بشر خوانده است
ترزا لوئیس به اتهام قتل همسرش از سوی دادگاهی در ویرجینیا به اعدام محکوم شد. حکم اعدام ترزا لوئیس در میان موج مخالفتها و اعتراض وکلایش که معتقد بودند وی به دلیل «بهره هوشی پائین» مورد سوءاستفاده شرکای خود قرار گرفته، مهر ٨٩ اجرا شد
زهره الهیان ظاهراً این نامه را در پاسخ به اظهارنظر دیلما روسف درباره حکم سنگسار نوشته است. دیلما روسف، آبان ۸۹ حکم سنگسار علیه محمدی آشتیانی را «بربریت» نامیده بود
مالک اژدر شریفی، رئیس دادگستری آذربایجان شرقی، آبان ٨٩ در یک نشست خبری اعلام کرد که سکینه محمدی آشتیانی به جرم «خیانت به همسر» به سنگسار محکوم شده است
با این حال، ١٣ دی ماه جاری غلام حسین محسنی اژهای در یک نشست خبری در تهران گفت در پرونده محمدی آشتیانی، «تخفیف» مطرح نیست بلکه امکان «اعاده دادرسی» وجود دارد
همچنین محمد جواد لاریجانی، دبیر ستاد حقوق بشر قوه قضائیه ایران، آذرماه گذشته در گفتوگو با شبکه پرس تیوی، تلویزیون انگلیسی زبان جمهوری اسلامی ایران گفت شورای حقوق بشر ایران بسیار تلاش کرده است تا در حکم آشتیانی تخفیف ایجاد کند و ما فکر میکنیم این شانس وجود دارد که زندگی او نجات پیدا کند
