In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, Shirin Ebadi, head of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, criticized the increasing pressure on the Iranian human rights community, reporting that Nasrin Sotoudeh has been under severe pressure since her arrest to confess against herself. “According to a resolution by the UN General Assembly, governments are responsible for supporting human rights defenders and to facilitate their work. This is because of the importance of human rights and those who work in this area. Governments must not prevent human rights activities; they must help it,” Ebadi told the Campaign.

“Unfortunately, the situation in Iran has become such that working in the field of human rights has become a serious liability. Whoever talks about human rights is accused of collaboration with the west and accepting money from western countries. Those who work for human rights face all kinds of risks. Now we observe hat Ms. Nasrin Sotoudeh is in prison for her human rights activities and is under pressure to speak against herself,” Ms. Ebadi added.

In a letter to the Head of International Bar Association, the 2003 Nobel Peace Laureate asked for the organization’s reaction to the pressure put on two human rights lawyers, Nasrin Sotoudeh and Mohammad Oliaifar who are both in Islamic Republic of Iran’s prison at this time.

Shirin Ebadi demanded the release of the two lawyers in her letter. “I would like to inform you that on 4 September 2010, Ms. Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights defender was imprisoned because of her efforts to defend her clients and her human rights activities. She has remained in solitary confinement ever since and against Iranian laws, she has not been allowed to contact her lawyer and her family, including her three-year old child. According to news from the prison, she is under pressure and threat to make false confessions against herself,” Ms. Ebadi wrote.

“Mr. Oliaifar, the other prominent lawyer and defender of human rights who has worked to end child executions for years, has been sentenced to one year in prison and is currently serving his sentence under unsuitable conditions,” added head of the Center for Human Rights Defenders.

“I ask that you use whatever way possible to object to the arrests of your imprisoned colleagues and to gain the Islamic Republic of Iran’s attention to the necessity of independence and freedom of expression for the lawyers in order to implement justice. Please use your international resources toward the release of the imprisoned lawyers in Iran,” Shirin Ebadi’s letter concludes.

شیرین عبادی: نسرین ستوده تحت شدیدترین فشارهابرای اعتراف علیه خود است

شیرین عبادی رییس کانون مدافعان حقوق بشر در ایران درمصاحبه با کمپین بین المللی حقوق بشر در ایران با انتقاد از فشارهای روزافزون بر جامعه حقوق بشری در ایران از بازداشت نسرین ستوده انتقاد کرد و گفت که وی هم اکنون در زندان تحت شدیدترین فشارها برای اعتراف علیه خود است. شیرین عبادی به کمپین گفت: « طبق مصوبه مجمع عمومی سازمان ملل متحد دولت ها وظیفه دارند که از مدافعان حقوق بشر حمایت کنند و موجبات تسهیل کار آنها را فراهم بیاورند. این به خاطر اهمیتی است که به حقوق بشر داده می شود و کسانی که در این راه فعالیت می کنند. دولت ها حق ندارند جلوی فعالیت های حقوق بشری را بگیرند بلکه باید کمک هم بکنند

خانم عبادی افزود: « متاسفانه در ایران شرایط به گونه ای شده که کار کردن برای حقوق بشر تبدیل به یک خطر عمده شده است. هر کس صحبت به حقوق بشر می کند متهم به همدستی با غرب و گرفت کمک های مالی از غرب می شود و کسانی که برای حقوق بشر کار می کنند در معرض انواع مخاطرات هستند. الان می بینیم که خانم نسرین ستوده به علت فعالیت های حقوق بشری در زندان هستند و تحت فشار برای اینکه علیه خودش صحبت بکند

هفته گذشته شیرین عبادی برنده جایزه صلح نوبل سال ۲۰۰۳ درنامه ای به رئیس کانون بین المللی وکلا با شرح وضعیت دو تن از وکلای مدافع حقوق بشر به نام های نسرین ستوده و ومحمداولیایی فر که هم اکنون در بازداشت به سر می برند خواستار واکنش این کانون به فشارهای وارده به این دو وکیل دادگستری توسط مقامات جمهوری اسلامی شد

وی در این نامه خوستار تلاش برای آزادی وکلای یاد شده شد. خانم عبادی نوشته است: « به اطلاع می‌رساند که در تاریخ ۱۳ شهریور ماه ۱۳۸۹ خانم ستوده وکیل دادگستری و مدافع حقوق بشر به علت دفاع از موکلین خود و هم چنین فعالیت‌هات حقوق بشری اش با صدور قرار بازداشت، زندانی شد و تا این تاریخ در سلول انفرادی بسر می برد و بر خلاف قوانین ایران، حق دسترسی به وکیل و ملاقات با خانواده از جمله فرزند سه ساله اش از وی دریغ شده است و طبق اخبار واصله از زندان، تحت فشار و تهدید است که علیه خود اعترافات غیر واقعی نماید

رییس کانون مدافعان حقوق بشر افزوده است: « هم چنین آقای محمد اولیائی فرد، وکیل دیگری که از مدافعین شناخته شده حقوق بشر است و سال‌ها برای لغو مجازات اعدام نوجوانان فعالیت می‌‌کرده نیز به یک سال حبس محکوم شده و هم اکنون در شرایط نا‌مناسبی دوران محکومیت خود را سپری می‌‌کند
خواهشمندم به هر طریق ممکن نسبت به دستگیری همکاران در بند خود اعتراض کرده و توجه دولت جمهوری اسلامی ایران را به لزوم استقلال و آزادی بیان وکلاء جهت اجرای عدالت جلب نموده و از امکانات بین المللی خود برای آزادی وکلای زندانی در ایران استفاده نمائید
