Deputy Treasurer of Tehran University announced today that about forty faculty members of the university have retired since the beginning of the Iranian year in March.
ISNA reports that Mohammad Hossein Moqimi said that all these individuals were retired according to regulations and legal provisions.
He added that some of the professors had put in requests for retirement and others with over 30 years as associate professors had to be retired.
The Tehran University official went on to add that 150 new faculty members have been hired in the same period. He claimed the university has never undergone such growth in any period.
He stressed that the retirement of professors must not be seen as a political issue.
In the past months , heads of over 20 universities and education centres have been changed.
Ministry of Science and Technology has described these developments as a way of strengthening higher education while the opposition has referred to them as political cleansing.
The opposition contends that many professors have been forced to resign due to fierce pressure on them in the workplace.
The universities have been prominent targets of post-election crackdown since the Islamic Republic establishment identified them as a main source of growth and organization of the opposition forces.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei also called for fundamental changes in Iran’s universities following the widespread protests against the alleged fraud in the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June of 2009.
While reformist websites report the launch of numerous committees for political cleansing of university faculties, Iran’s minister of science, Kamran Daneshjoo, has repeatedly announced that the universities will not tolerate professors that are not “in tune with the Islamic Republic regime.”

محمد حسین مقیمی، معاون اداری و مالی دانشگاه تهران از بازنشستگی حدود ۴۰ نفر عضو هیات علمی دانشگاه از ابتدای سال تاکنون خبر داد
به گزارش خبرگزاری دانشجویان ایران (ایسنا) محمد حسین مقیمی گفت تمامی این افراد «مطابق ضوابط و مقررات مربوطه» بازنشسته شدهاند و هیچ گونه اقدام «غیرقانونی» در این زمینه صورت نگرفته است
وی افزود: برخی از این اساتید «با اصرار خودشان و درخواست مکرر» بازنشسته شدهاند و برخی نیز با عنوان استادیار با بیش از ۳۰ سال سابقه، «طبق قانون» باید بازنشسته میشدند.
در همین حال مقیمی با بیان اینکه «دانشگاه تهران در یک سال گذشته حدود ۱۵۰ عضو هیات علمی جذب کرده است» اظهار داشت: «نسبت خروجی هیات علمی به ورودی یک به چهار است که دانشگاه تهران در کمتر دورهای شاهد چنین رشد قابل توجهی بوده است
معاون اداری و مالی دانشگاه تهران تاکید کرد که نباید به بحث بازنشستگی اساتید «نگاه سیاسی» داشت
در چند ماه اخیر رئیسان بیش از ۲۰ دانشگاه و مرکز آموزشی ایران نیز تغییر کردهاند. وزارت علوم هدف این جایگزینیها را تقویت آموزش عالی عنوان میکند اما منتقدان از آن به عنوان «تصفیه» یاد میکنند
یکی از آخرین تغییرات برکناری پروفسور یوسف ثبوتی از ریاست مرکز تحصیلات تکمیلی علوم پایه زنجان بود که دانشجویان این دانشگاه و جمعی از مردم زنجان نسبت به آن اعتراض کردند
مخالفان دولت ایران «استعفا» و «کنارهگیری» استادان دانشگاه را نتیجه فشارهای دولتی بر دانشگاهها میدانند
در پی حوادث پس از انتخابات دهمین دوره ریاست جمهوری در ایران نیز، مقامات ایران دانشگاهها را به عنوان یکی از مهمترین بسترهای شکلگیری نیروهای مخالف دانستند و آیتالله خامنهای، رهبر جمهوری اسلامی ایران بر لزوم تغییرات اساسی در دانشگاهها تاکید کرد
پس از آن سایتهای مخالف دولت، در آذرماه سال گذشته خبر از تشکیل «کمیتههای ویژه با همکاری وزارت علوم و مسئولان دولت در همه دانشگاهها» دادند که بازنشسته کردن اجباری و اخراج شماری از استادان را در برنامه کاری خود دارد
به دنبال آن کامران دانشجو، وزیر علوم نیز ۱۳ اسفندماه سال پیش، از اخراج استادانی سخن گفت که «با نظام همسو» نیستند و «التزام عملی به ولایت فقیه» ندارند
بر اساس شیوه جدید پذیرش استادان دانشگاه، همه کسانی که میخواهند در دانشگاهها تدریس کنند باید به سایت متمرکز جذب اعضای هیأتعلمی وزارت علوم مراجعه کرده و اطلاعات علمی و شخصی خود را وارد کنند تا در صورت تائید مسئولان وزارت علوم، امکان دستیابی به شغل مورد نظر خود را پیدا کنند
کامران دانشجو ۲۳ مردادماه گذشته، شاخصهای مورد نظر خود برای گزینش اعضای جدید هیأتعلمی دانشگاهها را «فطرت و کمال انسانی، تفکر مهدویت، مقابله با لیبرالدمکراسی غربی و تربیت سرباز برای امام زمان» اعلام کرد
بازنشستگی استادان دانشگاه برخلاف آنچه که مسئولان وزارت علوم بارها بر زبان آوردهاند، کاستیهایی را در برخی دانشکدهها به همراه داشته است. به عنوان نمونه وزیر علوم تعداد اعضای هیأت علمی مورد نیاز رشتههای علوم انسانی را بیش از ۲۰ هزار نفر دانست و تأکید کرد که در این زمینه با کمبود جدی مواجه هستیم
