Ramin Mehmanparast, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry described Lula da Silva’s offer of asylum to the woman sentenced to stoning in Iran “a Western conspiracy to interfere in international relations of countries.”
Over two weeks ago, Lula da Silva urged Mahmoud Ahmadienjad to allow Brazil to offer asylum to Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani whose sentence of death by stoning had created international outrage against Iran.
The international campaign against the stoning led Iranian judiciary to put a stop to the stoning sentence.
Mehmanparast described Brazilian president’s offer as an expression of his “humane nature and close relationship with Iran.”
He added that Western countries are using this incident strategically to create a rift between Iran and Brazil, in view of the fact that they have not been able to halt Iran’s nuclear activities and are also “upset” over the Tehran declaration which marked a consensus between Iran, Turkey and Brazil regarding Iran’s international nuclear disputes.
In the Tehran declaration, Iran agreed to swap its low-enriched uranium with nuclear fuel provided by the West for its reactor in Turkish territory; however, Western powers rejected the agreement which led to Brazil and Turkey voting against the UN resolution in June to impose fresh sanctions on Iran.
Mehmanparast went on to say: “If in human societies we were expected to release those who commit serious crimes, we would also have to ask you to release your murderers.”
Last week, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani confessed on TV to participating in the murder of her husband.
Amnesty International contends that the confession was coerced and fabricated.
In an earlier interview with the British daily Guardian, Mohammadi Ashtiani was quoted as saying: “Iranian officials are lying about her crime and are trying to execute her in secret.”

اجرای حکم سنگسار خانم محمدی به اتهام «زنای محصنه» (ارتباط جنسی زن همسردار با مردی دیگر) به دلیل اعتراض سازمانهای بینالمللی حقوق بشری از سوی قوه قضاییه ایران متوقف شده است
به گزارش خبرگزاریهای ایران، آقای مهمانپرست افزوده که سخنان رئیسجمهور برزیل درباره خانم محمدی به دلیل «انساندوستی و روابط نزدیکاش با ایران» بیان شده است
سخنگوی وزارت امور خارجه ایران گفته که چون کشورهای غربی «نتوانستهاند فعالیت هستهای ایران را متوقف کنند» و همچنین از بیانیه تهران که با حضور ایران، برزیل و ترکیه صادر شده، «ناراحت» هستند؛ با ترفند میخواهند میان ایران و کشورهای مستقل اختلاف بیاندازند
ایران اردیبهشت ماه امسال با امضای توافقنامه تهران با حضور ترکیه و برزیل، آمادگی خود برای مبادله اورانیوم سه و نیم درصد غنیسازی شده با اورانیوم ۲۰ درصد غنیسازی شده به منظور استفاده در رآکتور تحقیقاتی تهران را اعلام کرد، با این وجود شورای امنیت سازمان ملل ١٩ خردادماه گذشته تحریمهای تازهای را با صدور قطعنامه ١٩٢٩ علیه ایران تصویب نمود
آمریکا و غرب میگویند که ایران در برنامه هستهای خود دنبال «مقاصد نظامی» است اما ایران این اتهام را رد میکند
سخنگوی وزارت خارجه ایران در این نشست مطبوعاتی افزوده که «اگر قرار باشد در جامعه بشری به کسانی که جرمهای بزرگ دارند، آزادی داده شود که دیگر امنیتی باقی نمیماند. اگر این طور است ما هم میخواهیم شما قاتلهایتان را آزاد کنید
خانم محمدی آشتیانی شامگاه چهارشنبه ٢٠ مرداد ٨٩ با حضور در یک برنامه خبری در تلویزیون دولتی ایران اتهام مشارکت در قتل همسرش را پذیرفت و به محمد مصطفایی، یکی از وکلایش که به تازگی و پس از احتمال بازداشتاش به نروژ پناهنده شده، اعتراض کرد
سازمان عفو بینالملل پس از پخش این برنامه خبری، با انتشار بیانیهای سخنان سکینه محمدی آشتیانی در تلویزیون دولتی ایران را «اعتراف ساختگی و تحت شکنجه» خواند
محمدی آشتیانی در حالی در تلویزیون ایران علیه خودش اعتراف کرده که روزنامه بریتانیایی گاردین، شنبه ۷ اوت (۱۶ مرداد ۸۹) مصاحبهای را منتشر کرد که در آن خانم محمدی گفته بود: مقامات ایرانی درباره جرم او دروغ میگویند و میخواهند او را مخفیانه اعدام کنند
