Head of the union of fabric traders in Tehran Bazaar, a major business centre, was arrested, according to Iranian news websites.
Kaleme reports that Security Forces along with government forces in plain clothes shot tear gas bombs at protesters in the Bazaar today and arrested the head of the union of Fabric traders.
A group of Bazaar traders have gone on strike since Tuesday to protest a new tax law. The strike has started in the gold and fabric traders section of the Bazaar and still continues in some sections of it.
Kaleme reports that Mr. Motamedi, the fabric traders’ representative, was arrested while he was calling on people and Bazaar traders through a loudspeaker to gather in Sabze-Meydan Square.
The protests have continued although Mohammad Ali Zeyghami, the deputy trade minister announced on Tuesday that the 70 percent tax increase was scrapped and told Mehr News Agency that this was “a mere mistake” caused by miscommunication and wrong interpretation of the law. He maintained that the said tax increase is actually less than 30 percent.
A meeting set up on Wednesday between National Council of Trade Unions and the Tax Office to announce terms of agreement could not end the disputes.
ISNA reports that Ali Asgari, head of national tax affairs, left the meeting once the traders’ representatives became more emphatic on their protests.
Last the value added tax law was suspended after Tehran Bazaar went on strike.
The law which was passed by the parliament and approved by the Guardian Council two years ago was supposed to have been put into effect last September. However, every government effort to put it into action has been halted by the traders’ strike at the Bazaar.

گروهی از بازاریان تهران از روز سهشنبه ۱۵ تیرماه جاری در اعتراض به قانون جدید مالیاتی اعتصاب کردهاند. این اعتصاب که از بازار طلا و پارچه شروع شده تا صبح امروز، پنجشنبه در برخی نقاط بازار ادامه داشته است
به نوشته کلمه آقای معتمدی در حالی بازداشت شد که از پشت بلندگو مردم و بازاریان را به تجمع در سبزهمیدان تهران دعوت میکرد
گفته میشود که صنف پارچهفروشان اعلام کرده است تا حذف قانون مالیات مستقیم اصناف، اعتصاب را ادامه خواهد داد و تعویق قانون به آینده را نمیپذیرد
ادامه اعتراض بازاریان در حالی است که محمد علی ضیغمی، معاون وزیر بازرگانی، روز سهشنبه جاری با اعلام منتفی شدن افزایش ۷۰ درصدی مالیات اصناف، به خبرگزاری مهر گفت که این موضوع «تنها یک اشتباه» در انتقال مطلب و برداشت از قانون بودجه بوده است
به گفته وی: «آنچه در بودجه به عنوان افزایش مالیات واحدهای صنفی در سال ۸۹ بیان شده و مبنای ارزیابی قرار گرفته، نسبت به سال قبل کمتر از ۳۰ درصد افزایش داشته است
با این وجود نشست روز چهارشنبه شورای اصناف کشور برای اعلام مفاد توافق اصناف با سازمان امور مالیاتی که با حضور هیات رئیسه شورای اصناف، رئیسان مجامع امور صنفی و نمایندگان اتحادیههای صنفی و علی عسگری، رئیس سازمان امور مالیاتی کشور برگزار شد به نتیجه نرسید
به گزارش خبرگزاری دانشجویان ایران (ایسنا)، علی عسگری، رئیس سازمان امور مالیاتی کشور، به دنبال شدت گرفتن اعتراضات نمایندگان اصناف، جلسه را بدون رسیدن به توافق مشخص ترک کرده است
سال گذشته نیز اجرای قانون مالیات بر ارزش افزوده در پی اعتصابات بازار تهران و اصفهان به تعویق افتاد
قانون مالیات بر ارزش افزوده، براساس اصل ۸۵ قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی در جلسه ۱۷ اردیبهشت ماه ۸۷ کمیسیون اقتصادی مجلس ایران تصویب و در تاریخ دوم خرداد ۸۷ به تائید شورای نگهبان رسید
قرار بود که از مهر ماه همان سال این قانون اجرا شود اما هربار و در پی اقدام دولت، اعتصاب بازاریان منجر به تعویق اجرای این قانون شده است
