As universities continue to hand expulsion and suspension orderes to hundreds of students across the country, Ahmadinejad’s minister of education claimed today that no student has been banned for political activities.
In a press conference held today, Daneshjoo said, “The environment of political freedom that we enjoy in Iran does not exist in any other country in the world and criticism is what is needed to secure dynamism and progress”.
“But a political freedom which has taken the form of anarchy and attempts to overthrow the regime cannot be considered criticism and is only the West’s prescription for the Iranian youth”, Daneshjoo went on to say.
According to Daneshjoo no student has been banned for simply undertaking political activities and his ministry has dealt with compassion with the offenders.
Daneshjoo’s claims are in stark contradiction with the ground reality; Zia Nabavi, Majid Tavakoli, Majid Dorri are among the students to have recently received long prison terms for their political activities. Payman Aref, Shiva Nazar Ahari and scores of other students have been expelled from universities and detained in prisons across the country.
In the past five years many Iranian students have been banned, suspended or exiled for their political or student activities. Ahamadinejad and his government have always denied their existence.
