After admitting last week that Firoozi and Hashemi were indeed detained at Evin, the Tehran Prosecutor ordered the transfer of the 2 student activists to a public ward inside the prison.
However, one week after the prosecutor’s orders, the 2 remain in solitary confinement.
The families of the 2 detained activists, not having been contacted by their detained sons – due to Evin’s suspension of all incoming and outgoing calls – were under the impression that the transfer had taken place. Yesterday, with the phone lines re-established, the families discovered that no such transfer had taken place and that the 2 activists remain in solitary.
According to a RAHANA reporter, both families went to the Tehran Prosecutor’s office this morning to inquire but were not allowed to meet with the prosecutor. A meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday.
Firoozi and Hashemi disappeared on January 2nd, 2010 while on a trip to Western Iran, and, until last week, the authorities refused to admit having them in custody. Last week, after much effort by the detainees’ families, the Tehran Prosecutor finally admitted that Firoozi and Hashemi were detained at Evin Prison. Their families have yet to visit or talk to them on the phone, but RAHANA has received reports that Alireza Firoozi is currently detained in Ward 240 of Evin.
